Hi there

To be honest, I am very careful to what I listen to these days. That might sound strange, but with so many singers singing about negative things like heartbreak, despair and lonliness, it just makes me depressed. It's not just country either. I used to like watching the video of My Chemical Romance's Black Parade, but then I figured, with everyone dressed in black and the father dying and the lead singer singing with a grimace on his face, it was too much bad stimulation for me. People may not know it but their subconsciouses take in every little message put out there. This is why so many people start arguing after watching the news. Watching and listening to negative messages will make us negative. Especially if we're in a quasi hypnotic states as we're watching the TV (ie. when we're tired and don't mind to just sit and let any old stimulation surround us.) So any negative song that hits my ears, if its a really catchy melody I'll listen to it maybe twice, but then I'll move on to something else so the message doesn't have a chance to sink into my head.

This is where British music comes in. I LOVE British stuff. I'm only a plain jane Canadian that wishes she had a British accent, but their stuff is really great. I caught a whiff of this band called Busted and they are simply magnificent! Generally positive and playful, their music videos are unique and a quite a refreshing change from the sleazy and despairing videos you often see in Canada or the States. Ok, there are British singers like James Blunt who sing songs like "sorrow becomes his soulmate," but there are others who are very much more popular with me. Some British bands and singers I like are Razorblade (a pop band despite the hard edged title), Matt Willis (a former member of Busted), Take That (who have flourished in their British homeland despite only having a few hits in North America), and The Fratellis (who had a very popular song for one of the ipod commercials)

I put up an extensive list of British songs/TV shows on a website because I thought others might be interested in seeing them too. I'm filling it with only the most positive or comedic things so that everyone can start to smile a little more :) As I always say, life's too short for reality programming lol (actually I don't say that, but it's kinda catchy, don't ya think? I might start saying it from now on :D)

The sitcoms there are from when I was growing up in the eighties. There was some very funny stuff back then. I remember watching The Golden Girls when I was 12 and giggling at Rose's St. Olaf stories. Heh. Oh how I miss those 80's shows lol I have a few of them on dvd but I still can't find Perfect Strangers anywhere. I so loved Balki. He was so funny and sweet :) The best thing I find on TV nowadays is....well, food network shows I guess. But even those are bad because they make me hungry when I'm trying to stay slim lol

Well hope this helps expand your music horizons a little bit. Have a good one

P.S. I'm fairly new to hubpages, I just signed up a few days ago. My user name is supposed to sound like "Kimber-bee". It's just a cute variation of my real name Kimberly, and it helps remind me not to take life too seriously lol I hope it reads like that to the rest of you :)

Hah. Awesome reply. Thank you so much.

Yeah I agree that you should be careful about the negativity of messages around you. The expression 'You are what you eat' is like that and your mind and soul are no different from your body. People around us influence us in the same way.

I know that sometimes I've let myself be brought down by friends that were just constantly negative, spreading their sour attitude like a disease.

Being around positive influences and feeding yourself with uplifting things is really important.

thanks for replying.

I love MCR's "Black Parade" Video.

Pretty much, the message in that video is that although the father (who may or may not be "The father"), is dying it's saying that he's going off to a better place and his "Son" is getting advice from him to stick up for those less fortunate and the ones that don't fit in and get picked on. The father is saying that "HEY! I won't be here forever! And this is my final goodbye advice!"

I personaly believe that that song has a wonderful message to it.

Also, the video is saying that they need to "Carry On" after the death of that loved one that they don't need to be depressed over it. That they're somewhere else watching over them and that they're joining the "black parade" which is supposidly a really great honor. It's saying that they're watching over them and looking out for them and Gerard Way is saying he's thankful for that they're watching over him.

I think the message isn't all that sad or negative...

But, HEY, that's just one girls opinion.
